Escalator Working Principle

The escalator operates through coordinated movement between the drive system, step chain and handrail system.

Power Transmission Process:

Motor → Reducer → Drive Sprocket → Step Chain → Escalator Steps

At the same time:

Drive System → Handrail Drive Wheel → Handrail Belt

The motor generates power, which is transmitted through the reducer and drive sprocket to the step chain. The step chain drives the continuous movement of escalator steps, while the handrail system operates synchronously at the same speed.

At the upper and lower landings:

  • Steps gradually flatten to allow passengers to enter and exit safely

  • Steps fold and return through the lower track system

  • The continuous circulation cycle repeats
